Event marketer: how to master a simple and profitable profession

Event Marketing Education

It doesn't matter who you studied for. You are an accountant, a metallurgist or an engineer of colored enamels - do not torment yourself with boring work in your specialty! If you were a member of some student and school committees, participated in festivals and student conferences, show it in the resume. Independent activity at school is also excellent, because the basic practices: organization, responsibility, the highest level of conduct - these are the requirements that apply to any event.

The acquaintances that you acquired during your studies are also of great value, because it will be easiest for you if you were engaged in some kind of social activity and completed such specialties:

    journalism;
    advertising and marketing;
    psychology;
    foreign languages.

It is also not scary if there is no higher education at all, or if you are a director of public events and graduated from a school of culture. Just beware of the image of an unrecognized genius, otherwise no one will work with you.
Experience that will help you

The most important thing in your resume is the events held and everything around them: PR-actions, presentations, evening parties and student balls. You will have to deal with the same thing: sound, light, decoration, printing, coordination of participants - it would be great if you had already gotten bumps in this area.

Here are 4 areas in which you can try yourself on vacation or immediately after graduation to gain the necessary experience for this position.
Volunteering or children's camp

A huge plus in this matter is any volunteering, especially abroad, or organizations like Work & Travel. You will see the world and understand what is important in organizing events.

A children's camp is also great, as it teaches responsibility and the peculiarities of organizing events. The shortest shift is 14 days of summer, you can go on vacation like this. Of course, you will not rest, but you will understand whether it is yours or not.
Polygraphy

Experience in printing is incredibly important, because all events are associated with layouts and printing. It’s great if you already have experience in setting tasks for the designer, a basic understanding of layouts, working with designers and contacts of the printing center manager.

Even the secretary of the publishing house knows everything that is necessary in this position. No one will sell you low-quality printing at a high price, you know the difference between 150 and 300 dpi, between curves and fonts, the quality and size of banner designs.
Experience in catering

If you are an event marketing specialist who worked as a cook, bartender or waiter in a restaurant, you can order the best catering at the best prices. In addition, you can speak the same language with the administrators, so you will do your best so that the guests do not give a damn about the food. Work in a restaurant indirectly affects the ability to choose rooms - you understand what a stream of people is, how to manage it, how best to put furniture and tables, what is the best place for a stand, and so on.
Assistant manager

A man orchestra that can perform the most impossible tasks, while being organized and executive. Primary documentation, completing assignments, choosing gifts, organizing meetings, talking on the phone - this is an invaluable experience that will work for you in your resume.
Skills that will be useful for you at work

At least two skill groups from this list are a great chance for you to succeed. We have already said above that the event marketer is closer to the head teacher of educational work at school, counselor or restaurant administrator, than to the marketing proper. From this you need to proceed.
Skillful fingers

Good handwriting and drawing skills is an incredibly important skill. There is always a need to sculpt, cut, pack, sign certificates and give gifts. Your golden hands will help you do this handmade work, not only creative, but also of high quality.
Knowledge of languages and copywriting

For business events, this is super important. Local speakers are bored, I want a holiday and American experts. Negotiating with them is necessary for the person responsible for the process, and without good written English and the ability to speak in such a way that they understand (upper intermediate is optional) are very important. You do not have to be a copywriting genius, but you should be able to write an understandable, cohesive press release or a letter-selling partner.
Sales or telephone skills

Minimum success in network marketing will be enough to understand that you can call back to those who left the application, but did not pay for the ticket, and without false modesty and complexes convince people to buy or find out the reason for the refusal.

Negotiations should be conducted with everyone: bargain with all contractors, persuade speakers and guest stars, use the help of always busy colleagues, use friends, put pressure on everyone and everything ... Negotiation skills - this saves the budget of any event.
Organization and perfectionism
